Deux enfants, un frère et une soeur, sauvent un chien égaré dans les rues de Kaboul. Un soir, les deux enfants se rendent à la prison où est incarcérée leur mère. N'ayant nul endroit où dormir, ils sont autorisés à passer la nuit avec elle. Mais le matin suivant, ils doivent partir : la prison est un lieu pour les criminels, pas pour les orphelins errants. Voulant absolument retourner auprès de leur mère, les deux enfants entament une série de délits pour être mis en prison. Sans succès.
