Lors de l'inauguration et de la bénédiction de la vedette rapide L'Increvable, fierté des chantiers Fourchaume, la coque de celle-ci est transpercée par la traditionnelle bouteille de champagne. Hors de lui, le directeur Louis-Philippe Fourchaume (Louis de Funès), fils du fondateur des chantiers, renvoie sur le champ le concepteur du bateau, André Castagnier (Robert Dhéry), avant même que celui-ci ait eu le temps d'apprendre à son patron qu'une autre de ses créations, un petit voilier à la coque révolutionnaire baptisé Petit Baigneur, vient de remporter en Italie les « Régates de Sanremo » et l'« Oscar de la Voile ». Une fois informé et alléché par les perspectives commerciales d'un tel succès, Fourchaume dispose, avec son épouse, d'un dimanche pour tenter de rattraper son erreur et de convaincre Castagnier de travailler de nouveau pour lui.

The movie opens at the start of Delphine's summer vacation. Delphine has just suffered the breakup of a relationship and then her travel companion ditched her so that her new boyfriend can accompany her to Greece instead. She is left without plans at a time when Paris is emptying for the summer. Another friend invites Delphine to join a beach party for the weekend, but she finds that she's the only one amongst the group who is single so she quickly returns to Paris. Her family pressures her to spend the holidays with them in Ireland, but she resists. She travels alone to the Alps, but is put off by hordes of vacationers and turns around. Traveling restlessly, the theme of the movie (characterized by Roger Ebert) becomes clear: Delphine "is incapable of playing the dumb singles games that lead to one-night stands. She meets a new girlfriend, who flirts with two young men, and she flees in anger. She recoils from the pre-packaged lines of the guys she meets in bars and on trains. She simply cannot engage in that kind of mindless double-talk any longer. Beneath her boredom is genuine anger at the roles that single women are sometimes expected to play." While in Biarritz she eavesdrops on conversation about Jules Verne's novel Le Rayon Vert (The Green Ray). According to Verne, when one sees a rare green flash at sunset - our own thoughts and those of others are revealed as if by magic. At the Biarritz railway station she meets a young man who is travelling to Saint-Jean-de-Luz. She goes with him and together they observe le rayon vert (the Green flash).

Début septembre 1960, dans la Vallée de Chamonix à l'époque où de Gaulle est empêtré dans l'échec des négociations en pleine guerre d'Algérie. Un camp scout est installé entre Chamonix et Argentière. Huit de ces jeunes scouts, âgés de 12 à 16 ans, sont très dissipés et s'isolent fréquemment du camp pour jouer à des jeux parfois relativement dangereux. À titre punitif le chef de troupe du camp envoie les huit scouts en patrouille, les "Aigles", pour une randonnée de trois jours jusqu'au sommet du massif du Brévent (2 525 m d'altitude), où se trouve le refuge de la "Réserve des Aiguilles Rouges", et ils devront passer la nuit en bivouac avec une autre patrouille, les "Panthères", issue d'une autre troupe. Planning prévu : départ au lever du soleil depuis le presbytère de Chamonix, une distance de 12 km de marche jusqu'au sommet, puis retour, le tout dans les trois jours. Patrick, 16 ans, le plus âgé des huit, sera le chef de patrouille. Ses sept jeunes compagnons seront sous sa responsabilité. Mais tous ces adolescents sont d'origines et de milieux très différents, certains se détestent violemment et ne manquent pas de le montrer à chaque occasion, et la randonnée prend très vite l'allure d'une expédition où les relations entre les adolescents seront aussi éprouvantes que la montagne.

Deux jeunes couples d'amis partent en vacances à Saint-Tropez. Sur la route, ils ont la chance de tomber sur un ancien copain de Laura qui lui propose la villa de son père à Saint-Tropez. Celui-ci s'avère être un faux-monnayeur recherché par la police, accompagné de deux acolytes farfelus (dont Ticky Holgado). Friends of the first part can be found in the ski resort of Val d'Isere where Jerome, Gigi and Popeye work. Jerome and Gigi are now married : Gigi holds a pancake while Jerome exercised in his medical practice. Nathalie and Bernard, reconciled and fairly "new rich" are owners of a time share. Jean-Claude, always in search of a soul mate and still no seduction, desperately trying to dredge anything that moves. Christiane landed with a married man and much older than her, Marius. Popeye is now much less sure of himself: humiliated by his wife cheating on him with his cousin, he claims his friends that he is the manager of a ski shop when it was held by the same couple. During an exit off piste skiing, the group loses before being rescued by mountain peasants, which will make them taste artisan food and drink: first of pussy - a strong cheese soaked in fat , rinds, and wood alcohol for two or three seasons - and the shallot liquor found in garlic juice "because shallot alone, it s'rait too bland" in a parody of the famous scene Tontons gunslingers.

La vie quotidienne mouvementée d'une colonie de vacances établie dans un somptueux château et son parc. Le châtelain a eu l'idée de sous-louer ses locaux pour entretenir le château, mais regrette chaque jour un peu plus cette décision en voyant les dégâts causés par les enfants. Ces derniers sont chapeautés par une jeune équipe de moniteurs, un directeur plutôt cool, et un intendant au contraire un peu coincé. Entre les histoires d'amour des enfants, les filles amoureuses de leurs monos, les batailles de polochons, les journées à la piscine, les bêtises des uns et des autres, les courriers et les coups de fil des parents inquiets, il fleure sur cette colonie comme un parfum de bonheur...
