Phillip and Dieter nearly suffocate hiding their sexual identity in the face of puritanical small town values. Joined by a mysterious German relative, the three misfits escape to the big city searching for a place to belong.
Fifteen-year-old Nathan Davies (Stephan Bender) moves to St. Francisville, Louisiana, a small Southern town with his parents (Thomas Jay Ryan and Diana Scarwid) and starts to befriend the older boy next door, Roy (Maximillian Roeg), fellow high school student and bus driver, who is in a relationship with Evelyn (Rooney Mara). Nathan and Roy start to develop their relationship by helping each other with school work at Nathan's house. While Roy is teaching Nathan how to solve an Algebra problem, Nathan touches his hand. Roy pulls away at first, but then takes hold of Nathan's hand.

When Eric and his best friend, Maggie, accept summer jobs in food service at the local amusement park, they befriend their lesbian manager, Angie, and a gay college student named Rod. Sparks fly between the two boys, even as Maggie waits patiently in the wings for Eric's affections. Eric and Rod eventually go on a date, but then Rod promptly heads back to Ohio State. The encounter leaves Eric to have mixed feelings, but he is now more sure of his sexuality. After beginning his senior year of high school, Eric starts to change up his appearance by letting Maggie dye the top half of his hair blonde, and wearing more effeminate clothes. This raises eyebrows with his loving parents, but Eric learns that his mom is going to get a part time job at a local movie multiplex to help send him to study music in New York. While at a party with Maggie, several guys from their school call Eric gay slurs that cause him to leave.

Ernesto (Martin Halm), a 17-year-old Jew of the 1911 Italy, abandons his family, going to live with his uncles of Trieste. Then, they arrange so Ernesto begins to work with them and so he meets a stableboy (Michele Placido) who infatuates him so both end up in an intense sexual relationship. This ends as, by chance, Ernesto has a sexual intercourse with a prostitute. Ernesto renounces then, to take lessons of violin instead. There, he meets the 15-year-old Emilio, by whom Ernesto gets acquainted with his twin sister Rachel (Lara Wendel). Ernesto and Rachel are married.
The film opens on a graffiti-covered wall with Encolpius lamenting the loss of his lover Gitón to Ascyltus. Vowing to win him back, he learns at the Thermae that Ascyltus sold Gitón to the actor Vernacchio. At the theatre, he discovers Vernacchio and Gitón performing in a lewd play based on the "emperor's miracle": a slave's hand is axed off and replaced with a gold one. Encolpius storms the stage and reclaims Gitón. On their return to Encolpius's home in the Insula Felicles, a Roman tenement building, they walk through the vast Roman brothel known as the Lupanare, observing numerous sensual scenes. They fall asleep after making love at Encolpius's place. Ascyltus sneaks into the room, waking Encolpius with a whiplash. Since both share the tenement room, Encolpius proposes they divide up their property and separate. Ascyltus mockingly suggests they split Gitón in half. Encolpius is driven to suicidal despair, however, when Gitón decides to leave with Ascyltus. At that moment, an earthquake destroys the tenement.

Brent hatches a plan to out himself at prom, which will make him the most popular boy at school since the latest trend in teen girl magazines is a G.B.F.--gay best friend. His other friends Sophie Aster (Molly Tarlov) and Glenn Bak (Derek Mio) are just as skeptical as Tanner, who would prefer to stay under the radar.

Lorenzo is a young man, a newly qualified teacher on his first posting, who has been appointed to a small Italian village. One of his pupils, a cute and smart 12-year-old boy named Duilio, a farmer's son, gradually grows to love Lorenzo and they become good friends but the boy wishes Lorenzo was his older brother. Lorenzo often visits Duilio's home, meets his family, and they become good friends. Lorenzo meanwhile meets a young woman, with whom he falls in love. However, the relationship with his girlfriend is not perfect and he chooses to break up with her as she is about to be married: her fiance and her agree on an open relationship. Lorenzo declines the offer. At the same time Lorenzo becomes much closer to Duilio, and they often spend time with each other. The boy is given books and other things and the boy in turn makes and gives his friend a carved boat and poems. The boy kisses his teacher in a farm building on the lips. The boy's sister returns and all three become friends. But many things change after Duilio’s stepmother begins to distrust Lorenzo and says as much to the father. Gradually at the request of the father, who knows that his son loves his teacher more than himself, they meet less often. Duilio has to work on his father's farm in the afternoon, but Duilio still needs Lorenzo and misses him. To get out of this difficult situation, Lorenzo decides to leave the village and Duilio forever. The mother realises that the teacher's feelings for the boy are pure and asks to be forgiven. The family say he is always welcome anytime. The boy knows his teacher will never return not that he can not return. The teacher rejects the idea of a loving but homosexual relationship with the boy and has to leave. The boy does not know why his friend will never come back and runs after the taxi. The teachers weeps at the lost love with a boy who tells him everything and trusts him totally.
