Linda Hart (born July 5, 1950) is an American singer, musician, and actress, mainly appearing in musical theatre.
Solo work included appearances with The New Christy Minstrels as their only female leader, a stint on Johnny Cash's ABC television show, where she also served as a talent coordinator for an episode, and opening act performances for country musicians such as Hank Williams, Jr., Mel Tillis, Roy Clark, and The Oak Ridge Boys. She joined Bette Midler's backup troupe, the Staggering Harlettes, and later appeared in the Midler film Stella and the television special of Gypsy: A Musical Fable in 1993, which also starred Midler.
Later career
Hart's Broadway debut was in the 1987 revival of Cole Porter's Anything Goes; for this role, she won a 1988 Theatre World Award. Originally portraying Erma, she later played the role of Reno Sweeney. Subsequent roles included Sid Caesar & Company and originated the role of Velma Von Tussle in Hairspray.
On television she had a starring role in the short-lived sitcom The Winner in 2006. Prior to this she had appeared in episodes of The Dukes of Hazard, Night Court, Hill Street Blues, Major Dad, Touched by an Angel, The Practice, Desperate Housewives, and others, starting in the early 1980s. Among her film appearances are A Perfect World, Get Shorty, Tin Cup and Showtime.
She performed in the Seattle run of the musical Catch Me If You Can as Carol at the 5th Avenue Theatre, from July 28, 2009 to August 14, 2009, and returned to the role when the show premiered on Broadway in April 2011.

Biography
As a child, Hart sang in her church choir; at age seven, she joined her father, the late Ralph Hart, (a preacher) and the rest of the family in The Harts, a weekly gospel television series. Hart attended Los Angeles City College as a theatre major. During college, however, her family received a recording contract with Columbia Records; Hart joined them and moved to Nashville for the job. The film centers on two cops, Det. Mitch Preston (Robert De Niro) and Officer Trey Sellars (Eddie Murphy), who are paired for a reality police show and run into real trouble with a crime lord. Mona Hibbard (Driver) is a young woman from a troubled home who has one overarching goal: to become the winner of the Miss American Miss pageant. Her mother is an alcoholic who graduates from berating her young daughter for not doing well in kids' pageants to declaring she will not provide any money or support for Mona if she keeps competing. Fortunately for Mona, she becomes best friends with Ruby Stilwell (Adams), who joins forces with her kind-hearted grandmother to help Mona as she begins her steady rise in the beauty pageant ranks. Unfortunately for Mona, she becomes pregnant and is horrified because women with children are not eligible for the MAM crown, and she has a young daughter (Eisenberg), but Ruby selflessly agrees to raise Vanessa as her own daughter. Chili Palmer, a loan shark based in Miami, clashes with mobster, Ray "Bones" Barboni over a leather jacket borrowed from Palmer at a restaurant without permission by Mr. Barboni. They have two confrontations, the first of which leaves Barboni with a broken nose. Barboni then wants his boss Jimmy Capp to go after Palmer, but he refuses, as Palmer has done nothing wrong. Stella (Bette Midler) is a feisty woman working in a bar when she meets and falls for the suave charms of the young Dr. Steve Dallas (Stephen Collins). Although from opposite ends of the social spectrum, they start an affair resulting in Stella becoming pregnant. After he proposes half-heartedly, she rejects him and embarks upon raising their child Jenny as a single mother but is always helped and encouraged by her stalwart friend, a local good natured barfly, Ed Munn (John Goodman). Stella is fiercely independent and proud and is determined to do well by this child and take on whatever jobs she must to raise her daughter properly. When Jenny is 4 years old, her father suddenly reappears on the scene and is determined to get to know his daughter. At first reluctant to allow this, Stella is persuaded to allow contact, and a happy bond develops between the father and daughter. As Jenny (Trini Alvarado) grows up, she becomes torn between her fathers rich and well-connected background, and her loyalty and love for her mother who is poor and vulgar but devoted to her daughter. She also despises the perceived relationship she sees developing between Stella and Ed Munn who is now a broken alcoholic. Jenny eventually meets and falls for a boy from her fathers 'world' and Stella realizes that now, the disparities in her own and Jennys father's backgrounds might jeopardize her daughters future happiness. So she makes a heart rending decision towards the end of the film to ensure that this is not going to happen.
