Richard Portman (born 2 April 1934) is an American sound engineer. He won an Academy Award for Best Sound and has been nominated for ten more in the same category. He has worked on over 160 films between 1963 and 2004.

Biography
Richard Portman est un ingénieur du son comme son père Clem Portman . Il fait son apprentissage à la fin des années 1950 aux studios Goldwyn sous la direction de Gordon E. Sawyer. Il y reste plusieurs années en gravissant les échelons.À la fin des années 1970, il rejoint Robert Altman chez Lions Gate Film, puis au début des années 1980 est engagé par Walt Disney Productions, puis de 1989 à 1994 par Todd-AO.
Il enseigna au College of Motion Picture Arts de l'université d'État de Floride.

Dolores Claiborne (Bates) works as a domestic servant on a Maine island. The film opens with Dolores having a struggle with her elderly, paralyzed employer Vera Donovan (Judy Parfitt) in her mansion, after which Vera falls down the staircase. Will Randall is bitten by a wolf while driving home in Vermont. Afterwards, he is demoted from editor-in-chief of a publishing house when it is taken over by tycoon Raymond Alden, who replaces him with Will's protégé Stewart Swinton. When Will thinks that his wife Charlotte is having an affair with Stewart, he rushes over to his house where Stewart sees Will angry and asks him what the problem is. Will bites Stewart and rushes upstairs to the room to find Charlotte half-naked. His worst fears are confirmed. Will becomes more aggressive, taking on the characteristics of a wolf.

Claire Bartel is pregnant with her second child. At a routine checkup she is sexually molested by her new obstetrician, Dr. Victor Mott. Traumatized, she tells her husband, Michael, who encourages her to report him to the police. More women come forward with similar complaints, and multiple charges are prepared against Dr. Mott, who shoots himself. Later, Dr. Mott's pregnant widow is told by her lawyers that her husband's assets have been frozen because of the lawsuits and that she will lose her luxurious home. Mrs. Mott goes into early labor, loses her baby and, after hemorrhaging, is given an emergency hysterectomy. While recovering in the hospital, she sees a news story featuring Claire as the woman who alerted the police, leading Mrs. Mott to swear vengeance.
