Sundarrajan (1 March 1935 – 1 March 2003), popularly known as Major Sundararajan, was an Indian actor who has performed in Tamil language films.

Biography

Starting as an amateur stage artist while working full-time in the Telecom department in the early 1950s, Sundararajan entered the film world with Pattinathaar (1962), directed by K. Somu. After a powerful performance as a blind and retired army official in K. Balachander's Major Chandrakant (1966), he came to be known as 'Major Sundararajan'.

He acted in over 900 films and a few television serials, giving memorable performances in Gauravam, Ethir Neechal, Bama Vijayam, Apoorva Raagangal, Deiva Magan and Deiva Cheyal. He continued to act in stage plays while playing memorable roles on the screen. He acted in a few Malayalam and Telugu movies as well. He has also produced comedy films like karpagam vanthachu starring Arjun and Radhika under shyamalalyaa productions. His son Gowtham Sundararajan is active in the film industry as an actor and choreographer.

The film is the story of Anand (Kamal Haasan), a journalist and a martial arts expert. Anand is in love with Sripriya. He gets a micro film showing the wrongdoings of underworld king Sudarsan. Now the gang is after Anand for the micro film. Sudarsan's gang member Sathyapriya befriend Anand to get the micro film, but fails. Meantime Anand's love Sripriya leaves her house as her father Major Sundarrajan is against their affair. Sripriya get threatened by Sudarsan's gang for micro film. Anand's friend Y. G. Mahendran also get trapped by the underworld gang to retrieve the micro film. Anand had to fight against his martial arts master too, who is an aide of Sudarsan. Finally Anand succeeds in eliminating the entire gang saving micro film.

Marumalarchi is about Mammooty is the centre figure of 38 patti the man of honour who has dedicated his life for the welfare of the village people. He is so respected that the people even erect his statue. In the crowded fair (sandhai) Mammooty pulls Devayani's hand to save her from an approaching cobra. Unfortunately nobody but the hero and his car driver seems to have noticed the cobra. Devayani makes a big fuss of the event by assuming Mammooty to be a rogue. Set in the 1950s, the film begins with Anandan (Mohanlal), a struggling actor, seeking opportunities which will give him a big break in the film industry. He arrives in the studio and practices his combat skills with sword props provided on the sets while waiting for the director and the crew.
