The gang along with other poor children in the town are given a party with games and great food to eat. In addition, each child would be given a food basket to bring home to their parents. Its given by a wealthy woman whose husband is running for office. Meanwhile a couple criminals have set up two midgets to come to the party as babies. They would steal tons of expensive jewelry and planned on robbing a safe filled with tons of money. Stymie caught the "fidgets" in the safe. The rest of the gang come to Stymie's rescue as the midgets pull a gun. An alarm goes off and the police come and arrest the midgets and all ends well.

Lorsque le riche patriarche Emory Wells est retrouvé mort chez lui, son fils David est accusé. Lors du procès, après les témoignages des différentes personnes présentes sur place à l'heure du meurtre, David ne veut pas révéler où il est allé en quittant la maison. Finalement, Mary Stevens révèle qu'il était chez elle. En fait, la mère de David avait été retrouvée par lui quelques mois auparavant. Mary jure aussi qu'Emory était vivant quand David est parti. Il est donc acquitté. Mais le stress a été trop fort pour Mary, et sur son lit de mort, elle avoue avoir tué Emory car il ne voulait pas donner à son fils l'argent qui lui revenait de droit.

In 1931, China is embroiled in a civil war. Friends of British Captain Donald "Doc" Harvey (Clive Brook) envy him because the fabulously notorious Shanghai Lily (Marlene Dietrich) is a fellow passenger on the express train from Beiping to Shanghai. Since the name means nothing to him, they inform him that she is a "coaster" or "woman who lives by her wits along the China coast" – in other words, a courtesan. On the journey, Harvey encounters Lily, who turns out to be his former lover, Magdalen. Five years earlier, she had played a trick on Harvey to gauge his love for her, but it backfired and he left her. She frankly informs him that, in the interim, "It took more than one man to change my name to Shanghai Lily." When Lily makes it clear that she still cares deeply for him, it becomes apparent that his feelings also have not changed, and he shows her the watch she gave him with her photograph still in it.

Police Captain Jim Fitzpatrick (Walter Huston) is a dedicated family man and crime fighter not averse to using violence to fight violence.
