It was made as a personal video letter to retiring festival president Gilles Jacob and artistic director Thierry Frémaux explaining Godard's absence from the 2014 Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of his feature film Goodbye to Language. Jacob later release the short film on the internet. In the short film Godard's narration explains his personal state of mind as an artist and the current "path" that he is on. It includes footage from Godard's films Germany Year 90 Nine Zero and King Lear, quotes by Jacques Prévert and Hannah Arendt, and black and white still photos of Jacques Rivette and François Truffaut as Godard references the autumn and says that he is going "where the wind blows me." In King Lear Godard filmed a similar scene that included black and white still photos of film directors like Rivette and Truffaut, but Godard mocked the then recently deceased Truffaut in that film.

Nana (Anna Karina), a beautiful Parisian in her early twenties, leaves her husband and infant son hoping to become an actress. Without money, beyond what she earns as a shopgirl, and unable to enter acting, she elects to earn better money as a prostitute. Soon she has a pimp, Raoul, who after an unspecified period agrees to sell Nana to another pimp. During the exchange the pimps argue and in a gun battle Nana is killed. Nana's short life on film is told in 12 brief episodes each preceded by a written resume. Godard introduces other idiosyncrasies to focus the viewer's attention.

Illibatezza ("Chastity") by Roberto Rossellini is a story of a beautiful stewardess which attracts unwanted attention from one of the air travelers - a middle aged American. The two overnight by chance in the same hotel. She has a fiancé back home, to whom she sends 8mm films made with her camera. Paula Nelson (Anna Karina) goes to Atlantic City to meet her lover, Richard Politzer, at an unknown point in the future (maybe 1969). Once there, she learns that Richard is dead and decides to investigate. In her hotel room, she meets Typhus, whom she ends up knocking out. His corpse is later found in the apartment of David Goodis (Yves Afonso), a writer. Paula is arrested and interrogated. From then on, she encounters many gangsters.
