Synopsis
The film features two parallel stories. The first one is set in an unknown past time and is about a young man (Clémenti) who wanders in a volcanic landscape (shot around Etna) and turns into a cannibal. The man joins forces with a thug (Citti) and ravages the countryside. At the end, his company gets arrested and during his execution, he recites the famous tagline of the film: "I killed my father, I ate human flesh and I quiver with joy." The story is about the human capacity of destruction and a rebellion against the social prerequisites implied against it.Actors

In 1944 in the Republic of Salò, the Fascist-occupied portion of Italy, four wealthy men of power, the Duke, the Bishop, the Magistrate, and the President, agree to marry each other's daughters as the first step in a debauched ritual. They recruit four teenage boys to act as guards and four young soldiers (called "studs", "cockmongers", or "fuckers"), who are chosen because of their big penises. They then kidnap nine young men and nine young women and take them to a palace near Salò. Accompanying them are four middle-aged prostitutes, also collaborators, who recount arousing stories for the men, who sadistically exploit their victims.

A mysterious figure known only as "The Visitor" appears in the lives of a typical bourgeois Italian family. His arrival is heralded at the gates of the family's Milanese estate by an arm-flapping postman. The enigmatic stranger soon engages in sexual affairs with all members of the household: the devoutly religious maid, the sensitive son, the sexually repressed mother, the timid daughter and, finally, the tormented father. The stranger gives unstintingly of himself, asking nothing in return. Set in Rome and its surroundings, the film tells in a frighteningly realistic, ruthless and grotesque the evil of two powerful men of Italy in the seventies: a Director of illegal buildings (Vittorio Gassman), extremist fascist, and an upright judge, cynical looking in part to the Italian law (Ugo Tognazzi). Both can not stand each other, given the contrasts between the two men in any social, political and philosophical. Everyone hates each other and would like to delete it, but just because of the bad example that the two men give power to the people, many Italians are adversely affected because of cheating and rudeness of the fascist manufacturer and the communist magistrate. The director Dino Risi underlines the misdeeds and the weakness of the Italian people to react accordingly, by focusing on the story of these two men who are each other's opposite of the net.

The film is set in 1800, in Rome. Two thieves are imprisoned and condamned to death. To pass the time, the two tell ribald stories: in the first a duke and a man named Nicolino discover that their wives have betrayed them with the boys and with a priest; in the second story two farmers are fighting a clappers asimile Rustican Cavalry by Giovanni Verga, because their wife has betrayed both. In the third story a priest lover of beautiful women kills one of his pilgrims, because he is in love with one of the girls of his menagerie; in the last story a jealous husband kills the lover of his wife. At the murder also participates another lover, more mature of the killed. God is very raged for the crime, and sues the four, performing only the last lover: the murdered, because he's pure and innocent.

Un vieil homme, accompagné de son grand nigaud de fils, est agenouillé devant la tombe de son épouse, morte après avoir mangé des champignons empoisonnés. Aussitôt, ils se mettent à la recherche d'une femme pour remplacer cette mère et épouse. Avant tout, ils se mettent d'accord pour qu'elle ne soit pas rousse! Au bout d'un an, ils finissent par trouver une très jolie jeune femme, sourde et muette. Pour réunir plus d'argent et améliorer leur habitation (une pauvre baraque en zone industrielle), ils organisent un faux suicide de la jeune épousée, du sommet du Colisée. Malheureusement, celle-ci glisse sur une peau de banane et meurt réellement.
