The 10th Victim (Italian: La decima vittima) is a 1965 Italian/French international co-production science fiction film directed by Elio Petri and starring Marcello Mastroianni and Ursula Andress, and featuring Elsa Martinelli in a supporting role. The picture is based on Robert Sheckley's 1953 short story "Seventh Victim". Sheckley later published a novelization of the film in 1966, and two sequels (Victim Prime and Hunter/Victim) in 1987 and 1988, respectively.
Synopsis
In the near future, big wars are avoided by giving individuals with violent tendencies a chance to kill in the Big Hunt. The Hunt is the most popular form of entertainment in the world and also attracts participants who are looking for fame and fortune. It includes ten rounds for each competitor, five as the hunters and five as the victims. The survivor of ten rounds becomes extremely wealthy and retires. Scenes switch between the pursuit, romance between a hunter and a victim, with a narrator explaining the rules and justification of the Hunt.Actors

Dans une petite commune de Sicile, le pharmacien Arturo Manno, connu pour ses infidélités conjugales, et son ami, le Dr. Roscio, sont assassinés au cours d'une partie de chasse. La Police conclut à un règlement de comptes, imputable à la jalousie. Deux frères, ainsi que leur père, sont accusés du meurtre de Manno car le pharmacien aurait eu une liaison avec leur sœur mineure de 15 ans. Mais Paolo Laurana, professeur, autrefois militant communiste, flaire des motifs plus graves : il découvre, notamment, que Roscio s'apprêtait à dénoncer un notable local compromis avec la Mafia et que Manno recevait des lettres de menace. La lecture du journal intime du docteur, retrouvé par son épouse Luisa, semble confirmer ses soupçons… Toutefois, Luisa, consciemment ou inconsciemment, engage Laurana dans un piège dont il ne sortira pas vivant. A recently promoted police inspector (Gian Maria Volonté) kills his mistress (Florinda Bolkan), and then covers up his involvement in the crime. He insinuates himself into the investigation, planting clues to steer his subordinate officers toward a series of other suspects, including the woman's gay husband and a student radical. He then exonerates the other suspects and leads the investigators toward him, in order to prove that he is "above suspicion" and can get away with anything, even while being investigated. In the end, he confesses to the crime in front of his superiors - who refuse to believe him. Sure that he is safe, he recants his confession, and receives the approval of the police commissioner.

Un ouvrier plombier quinquagénaire, veuf et père, assiste dans un autobus au décès d'un homme. In a main thoroughfare on the outskirts of Rome, thousands of motorists are stuck in terrible traffic jam for twenty-four hours. In a stretch of road there is a variety of characters whose behaviour becomes strange. There is a selfish and hypocritical entrepreneur in a luxury car; a young hippie girl harassed and then raped by some dandies and a family from Naples on the way to Rome to abort their daughter. There is also an old couple that argues constantly; a patient that dies in the ambulance; an old actor staying in a small country house near the road; a female globetrotter who is hitch-hiking to the stopped cars and some young members of Far Left Wing among others. The day the traffic jam clears, the entrepreneur hires the girl from Naples for a record company in exchange for a sexual service. The girl is raped and then comforted by a man who wants to avenge her but then gives up. The rapists leave quietly once more.
