After a decade of research, the scientist Dr. Vaseegaran creates a sophisticated android robot with the help of his assistants, Siva and Ravi, in order to commission it into the Indian Army. He introduces the robot, named Chitti, at a robotics conference in Chennai. Chitti helps Sana, Vaseegaran's medical student girlfriend, cheat in her examination, then saves her from being assaulted by a group of thugs. Vaseegaran's mentor, Professor Bohra, is secretly engaged in a project to create similar android robots for a terrorist organisation, but has so far been unsuccessful.

In the future all plant life on Earth has become extinct. A few specimens have been preserved in enormous, greenhouse-like geodesic domes attached to a fleet of American Airlines space freighters, currently just outside the orbit of Saturn. Teenage computer whiz Kyle Baxter (Ethan Randall) enters, and subsequently cheats in a virtual reality version of laser tag(this was due to losing in a round caused by an uninvited player interfering). The prize is a robotic opponent to compete against in a real-world version of the game. When "Evolver" (the robot, voiced by William H. Macy) is first delivered, it appears to be quite simply a toy, but is revealed that whenever Evolver is defeated, he "evolves" up to the next level of the game, becoming smarter, quicker and harder to beat. Kyle, his friend Zach, Jamie, (a girl he met during the competition and lost because of her,) and his sister, Ali (Nassira Nicola) soon begin the first level of the game with Evolver. The first game (Evolver vs. Kyle, Zach, Jamie, and Ali) passes quickly, and all appears to be fine. Later, because Evolver has recording capabilities, Kyle and Zach send Evolver into the girls locker room at their school. However, Evolver is discovered by the girls there and is pushed into the boys locker room, where he switches to game mode. The only occupant, Dwight, a bully jock, meets Evolver, who takes him as an enemy to defeat.

However, a bomb, disguised in a package sent from Tokyo, explodes and destroys the Toretto house just seconds after Han, a member of their team, is killed by Shaw in Tokyo. Dom later visits Hobbs in a hospital, where he learns that Shaw is a rogue special forces assassin seeking to avenge his brother. Dom then travels to Tokyo to claim Han's body, where he meets and races Sean Boswell, a friend of Han's, who gives him personal items found at Han's crash site.

As punishment, Leela is fitted with a shock collar to teach her anger management. Meanwhile, Bender finds Cubert and Dwight playing Dungeons & Dragons with their friends, but he cannot join in since, as a robot, he has no imagination. After several tries at imagining things, Bender manages to imagine himself as a medieval knight named "Titanius Anglesmith, fancy man of Cornwood" and enters the game. Unfortunately, he soon gets lost in his fantasy and goes on a rampage, resulting in his commitment to the Hal Institute for Criminally Insane Robots.
