Anna Theodora Chancellor (born 27 April 1965) is an English actress. She is the great-great-granddaughter of British Prime Minister H. H. Asquith.

Biography

Fille de l'honorable Mary Joliffe, elle-même fille de William Jolliffe, quatrième baron Hylton , et de Sir John Chancellor, qui fut président de l'Agence Reuters, Anna Chancellor est née le 25 avril 1965 à Richmond, dans le Grand Londres. Son oncle est un journaliste anglais connu, Alexander Chancellor , qui fut rédacteur en chef de l'hebdomadaire conservateur The Spectator de 1975 à 1984, et contribue au supplément dominical du Guardian. Elle est aussi une arrière-petite-fille, à la sixième génération d'Edward Knight, un des six frères de Jane Austen. Comme Helena Bonham Carter, elle est une arrière-petit-fille de Lord Asquith.

Elle a deux sœurs plus âgées, Isabel et Kate, un frère Edward, et une fille du poète écossais Jock Scott, Poppy, née en 1988, et a été mariée à Nigel Willoughby de 1993 à 1998.

Elle est élevée dans le Somerset, puis dans un couvent du Dorset, l'Institute of the Blessed Virgin. A 16 ans, elle part pour Londres et y vit avec son petit ami, le poète écossais Jock Scott, avec qui elle a une fille, Poppy, née en 1988. Le couple vit une vie plutôt marginale avec peu d'argent, malgré la fortune de la famille d'Anna. En 1992, ils se séparent, et Anna décide de devenir actrice.

Elle obtient son premier rôle à la télévision en 1990 dans le soap opera Jupiter Moon. En 1994, elle fait une percée en obtenant son premier rôle important dans Quatre mariages et un enterrement de Mike Newell, où Hugh Grant la laisse devant l'autel le jour de leur mariage.

Set at the end of 1880, the film depicts the invention of the vibrator.
