Bull Montana (de son vrai nom, Luigi Montagna) né le 16 mai 1887 à Voghera (Italie), et mort le 24 janvier 1950 à Los Angeles (États-Unis), est un lutteur professionnel et un acteur italo-américain.

Biography

Montagna est né le 16 mai 1887 à Voghera, en Italie, et est venu aux États-Unis dans son enfance.

Il est devenu un lutteur professionnel sous le nom de Bull Montana. Il s'est tourné vers le cinéma en 1917, apparaissant d'abord aux côtés de son ami Douglas Fairbanks. En 1919, il apparut dans un rôle de méchant dans le chef d’œuvre de Maurice Tourneur Le Secret du bonheur (Victory) face à Lon Chaney. Parmi ses nombreux amis, il y avait Abraham Jacob Hollandersky, dit "The Newsboy", boxeur, lutteur et figurant au cinéma, qui a affirmé un jour que Montana lui avait offert de l'aider à financer son autobiographie en 1930.

Au début des années 1920, Montana combattait souvent avec son ami Jack Dempsey avant certains grands combats de Dempsey pour divertir la presse et les spectateurs.

Montana était un habitué au cinéma des rôles de voyous, de personnages peu sympathiques, et parfois même pas très humains (il incarne l'habitant simiesque des cavernes dans The Lost World en 1925, face à Wallace Beery dans le rôle du professeur Challenger (d'après l'œuvre d'Arthur Conan Doyle). Il a continué à tenir des petits rôles jusque dans les années 1930, notamment face à Buster Crabbe dans le serial de 1936 Flash Gordon. Comme beaucoup de "gueules musclées" du cinéma, Bull Montana était réputé pour être doux dans la vie réelle.

Il est mort le 24 janvier 1950 à Los Angeles, en Californie. Il est enterré dans le cimetière du Calvaire.

The plot involves a young woman (Mary Eaton) who wants to be in the Follies, but in the meantime is making ends meet by working at a department store's sheet music department, where she sings the latest hits. She is accompanied on piano by her childhood boyfriend (Edward Crandall), who is in love with her, despite her single-minded interest in her career. When a vaudeville performer (Dan Healy) asks her to join him as his new partner, she sees it as an opportunity to make her dream come true. Upon arriving in New York City, our heroine finds out that her new partner is only interested in sleeping with her and makes this a condition of making her a star. Soon, however, she is discovered by a representative of Ziegfeld.

Ahmed, the adult son of Sheik Ahmed (Valentino played both roles) is just as impetuous as his father once was. At the beginning of the movie, he is wooing the dancing girl Yasmin (Banky), who is exploited and overworked by her renegade French father. During one of their trysts at a moonlit ruins, Ahmed is kidnapped and later tortured by Yasmin's father and his cronies, who hope to receive a large ransom from Ahmed's father. Ahmed is rescued by his loyal servant Ramadan. Having been misled into believing that Yasmin was the one who set up his capture, Ahmed kidnaps her in turn and imprisons her in his tent. It is heavily implied that she is then raped, but the scene fades out before anything of consequence happens, and the exact details are left to the viewers' imagination. Ahmed's father, angered at his son's long absence from home, arrives and insists that he free Yasmin. When a remorseful Ahmed learns that Yasmin actually wasn't involved in his kidnapping, he sets off to free her from her father (who is trying to force her to marry one of his henchmen). All is forgiven, and the movie ends with Yasmin and Ahmed reunited, presumably to wed and live happily ever after.
