Henry McGee (14 May 1929 – 28 January 2006) was a British actor, best known as straight man to Benny Hill for many years. McGee was also often the announcer on Hill's TV programme, delivering the upbeat intro "Yes! It's The Benny Hill Show!". He was also known to thousands of British children throughout the 70s as "mummy" in the Sugar Puffs commercials as in "Tell them about the honey Mummy".

Biography

Born as Henry Marris-McGee in South Kensington, London, and educated at Stonyhurst College, McGee hoped to become a doctor, but the death of his father when he was 17 put financial strains on the family that ended his plans. Having enjoyed acting as a boy, McGee decided to follow his mother's side of the family, which could trace its involvement in acting back to Kitty Clive. He went on to play supporting roles in films and television series and dramas, including The Italian Job (1969), The Saint and The Avengers, but it is for comedy roles that he is best remembered, primarily and most famously for his straight man interviewer in the Benny Hill Show. He was also remembered by some as the 'mummy' of Honey Monster, a large, yellow, furry creature in advertisements for the breakfast cereal Sugar Puffs.

McGee played Two-Ton Ted in the video of Ernie (The Fastest Milkman In The West). Other comedy roles included the holiday centre manager in the 1973 film Holiday on the Buses, officious policemen in Adventures of a Taxi Driver (1976) and Revenge of the Pink Panther (1978), the TV presenter Harold Hump in Carry On Emmannuelle (1978), opposite Charlie Drake in the ATV/ITV situation comedy The Worker (1965–1978), and There Was An Englishman, An Irishman and a Scotsman, a BBC Scotland comedy series written by Lew Schwarz. McGee was the Englishman, with Harry Towb as the Irishman and Roy Kinnear as the Scot. The show ran for 1 season in 1972. He also appeared in an episode of Rising Damp as a conman, Seymour. In 2003, he appeared in the episode The Miraculous Curing of Old Goff Helliwell, in Last of the Summer Wine. He had a long and successful theatre career, during which he tackled a wide range of roles, receiving plaudits for deadpan delivery in farces such as Plunder.

After the spectacular defeat of a fresh centurion, Caesar sends the patrician Lucullus to capture Getafix and throw him off the edge of the world. In Gaul, Unhygienix lacks fresh fish (as always), which starts a fight, spilling Getafix's magic potion. Because fresh fish is a vital ingredient thereof, Asterix and Obelix go fishing while Getafix gathers herbs, accompanied by Dogmatix. In the forest, Getafix and Dogmatix are captured by Lucullus. Aboard a Roman galley bound for the "world's edge", they pass Asterix and Obelix, who pursue them, using Obelix as an outboard motor until he is diverted by the aroma of food from a passing pirate ship, and then blown off course by a violent storm. After a long pursuit, a dolphin brings Dogmatix (whom Lucullus had dropped overboard) and guides them to the Romans. Seeing the Gauls and mistaking the North American coast for the world's edge, the Romans launch Getafix from a catapult, then return to Rome, while Asterix and Obelix make landfall. In Gaul, Caesar lays siege to their village and waits for the last of the magic potion to run out.

Philippe Douvier (Robert Webber), a major businessman and secretly the head of the French Connection, is suspected by his New York Mafia drug trading partners of weak leadership and improperly conducting his criminal affairs. To demonstrate otherwise, Douvier's aide Guy Algo (Tony Beckley) suggests a show of force with the murder of Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Peter Sellers). Unfortunately for Douvier, his first attempt at bombing him fails; and the subsequent attempt by Chinese martial artist 'Mr. Chong' (an uncredited appearance by the founder of American Kenpo, Ed Parker) is thwarted when Clouseau successfully fights him off, believing him to be his (Clouseau's) valet Cato (Burt Kwouk) who has orders to keep his employer alert with random attacks. That night, Douvier poses as an informant to lure Clouseau into a trap, but the Chief Inspector's car and clothes are stolen by transvestite criminal Claude Russo (Sue Lloyd), who is killed by Douvier's men. Subsequently Douvier and the French public believe Clouseau is dead and, as a result of this assumption, Clouseau's former boss, ex-Commissioner Charles Dreyfus (Herbert Lom), is restored to sanity and is released from the lunatic asylum to perform the investigation.

The story is about an Old English Sheepdog who accidentally drinks a liquid growth formula (a form of experimental fertilizer), and expands to gigantic proportions. Two criminals then steal Digby, and sell him to a circus. Digby, however, escapes by breaking his chains, and running at will across the countryside of the United Kingdom. The boy who owns Digby, as well as the scientist who worked on the growth formula, both realize that Digby is constantly increasing in size, and will soon cause enormous damage unless something is done immediately. The scientist finds out he has created a chemical that might reverse the growth formula. The British military, however, is attempting to solve the problem of the oversized sheepdog in their own way: by use of bombs and artillery.
