Christine Painter (Julie Walters) is a sexually naive waitress and single-mother who pays for her teenage son's tuition by renting flats to local tarts. She later becomes a call girl herself - joining her friend Shirley (Shirley Stelfox) and their "maid" Dolly (Danny Schiller) - and specializes in fetish/kink roleplay with older gentlemen. Superman saves a spaceship of cosmonauts whose ship was thrown off course by debris, then visits his home-town of Smallville as Clark. Now that his adoptive parents have died, Clark has inherited their now-unattended farm. Frollo, l'archidiacre de Notre Dame est tombé amoureux de la gitane Esméralda. Accusée de vol il lui accorde l'asile mais elle refuse ses avances et s'enfuit. Quasimodo le sonneur de cloches difforme et bossu la rattrape, Pierre Gringoire, un poète de rue tente de la faire échapper mais se fait assommer par Quasimodo. Ce dernier est finalement intercepté par les hommes de la garde royale commandé par Phoebus. Esmeralda tombe amoureuse de ce dernier. Pendant ce temps Pierre Gringoire est capturé par l'assemblé des voleurs et des vagabonds qui le condamne à la pendaison. Esméralda refuse ce jugement et le prend pour époux (pendant quatre ans) uniquement pour lui sauver la vie. Quasimodo est condamné à recevoir le fouet et à être exposé au pilori, Esméralda a pitié de lui et lui donne à boire. Frollo, apprenant qu'Esméralda a rendez-vous dans un hôtel borgne avec Phoebus se rend sur les lieux et poignarde le militaire. Esméralda est capturée, soupçonnée, torturée, jugée et condamnée à la pendaison. Quasimodo la sauve et la fait se réfugier dans l'église. Phoebus a survécu mais se refuse à intervenir pour casser la condamnation d'Esméralda qui repousse toujours les avances de Frollo. Ce dernier demande donc au parlement un édit annulant le droit d'asile de la jeune femme. Apprenant la nouvelle, Gringoire pousse l'assemblée des voleurs et des vagabonds à attaquer la cathédrale pour tenter de sauver la jeune femme. Quasimodo se méprenant sur les intentions des assaillants les empêche d'entrer en lançant de lourds projectiles.

Emperor Ming the Merciless declares that he will first play with and then destroy the Earth using natural disasters. On Earth, New York Jets football star "Flash" Gordon boards a small plane, where he meets travel journalist Dale Arden. Mid-flight, the cockpit is hit by a meteorite and the pilots are lost. Flash takes control and manages to crash land into a greenhouse owned by Dr. Hans Zarkov. Zarkov, who believes the disasters are being caused because an unknown source is pushing the Moon towards Earth, has secretly constructed a spacecraft which he plans to use to investigate. Zarkov's assistant refuses to go, so he lures Flash and Dale aboard. The rocket launches, taking them to the planet Mongo, where they are captured by Ming's troops.

Lucy (Collins) is working as a dancer in a sleazy strip joint. Her stage act includes a routine with a dwarf named Hercules (George Claydon). One night after the show, she invites Hercules into her dressing-room for a drink. He declines the drink but starts to rub Lucy's neck and shoulders. Three trustees of the Van Traylen fund have died during the last months, their deaths resembling suicides. But after a mysterious bus accident involving the final three trustees and 30 orphan children, police officer Colonel Bingham (Christopher Lee) starts investigating and notices discrepancies that make him question whether it was an accident. One of the orphans is treated by a psychiatrist, and when that doctor ends up murdered, it becomes obvious that something sinister is going on, and not just coincidental deaths.
