Man's Best Friend is a 1935 feature film about the adventures of a boy and his dog Lightning. The film stars Douglas Haig, an American child actor of the 1920s and 30s; Lightning, a grandson of Strongheart; Frank Brownlee; and Mary McLaren.
Man's Best Friend was the high point of Douglas Haig's career as a film actor. In 1986, TV Guide described the film as a "simple, unpretentious story of a little mountain boy and his pet police dog".
Man's Best Friend has been released on DVD, together with The Secret Code.

À la fin du XIX siècle, sur les bords de la Mer Noire, Lodyjkine, vieux joueur d'orgue ambulant, son petit-fils, Serioja, acrobate âgé de douze ans et Arto, leur caniche savant donnent des représentations. Ils gagnent péniblement leur vie, mais s'entendent bien et l'enfant, malgré les longues marches, trouve la force de chanter sur les routes de Crimée. Un jour, à Miskhor sans doute, ils entrent dans le jardin d'une luxueuse demeure et font un spectacle devant les propriétaires et Trilly, un enfant à qui on ne refuse rien. Au moment de repartir, ce garçon veut à tout prix, c'est le cas de le dire, le caniche, et, malgré tous les efforts de la famille pour lui expliquer que ce chien n'est pas à vendre car c'est le gagne-pain des saltimbanques, Trilly ne cède pas et fait "une crise". Sa mère s'abaisse alors à offrir une forte somme d'argent au vieux joueur d'orgue, mais celui-ci refuse et repart. La nuit le chien disparaît.

A tribe of Vikings feel flustered because in every raid they find their target locations devoid of people. Cryptograf, an advisor to Viking chief Timandahaf, says that the enemies always disappear because "Fear gives them wings". Timandahaf excitedly concludes that they must find a "Champion of Fear", who can teach them to be great cowards so they can fly, making them invincible. The chief says he'll give anything to whoever can bring him this Champion of Fear. Cryptograf hatches a secret plan to seize power and tells the chief they'll find the Champion of Fear in Gaul.

Michael Dooley and his German Shepherd Dog companion Jerry Lee set out to find a murderous man who plans to kill Dooley. During the movie, Jerry Lee becomes tired, and begins to fail doing his normal way of life. They also reluctantly team up with Sergeant Wendy Welles and her Doberman Pinscher, Zeus, who, according to Welles, was trained in the Netherlands and listen to commands in Dutch (although in reality the commands are in German). Eventually, they discover the attempter: a psychotic man named Devon Lane who thought Dooley's wife, Tracy, loved him more than she did her own husband just because she said that he "had talent". He also believes that Dooley was responsible for Tracy's death. Devon attempts to kill Dooley in a climatic showdown and, just in time, Jerry Lee jumps, tackles Devon, and takes him out. Devon is then arrested and Dooley is taken to the hospital for gunshot wounds. The film ends with Jerry Lee and Dooley creating their own exercise video.

In the tranquil town of Timberline, 900-pound (407 kg) grizzly bear Boog enjoys a captive, but happy existence and spends his day as the star attraction of the town's nature show with nights living the life of luxury in the garage of park ranger Beth, who raised him since he was a cub. One day, the hunting fanatic Shaw drives into town with the one-antlered deer Elliot strapped to the hood of his truck. Boog frees Elliot at the last minute and against his better judgment, before Shaw can go after him. Boog never expects to see his "buddy" again. Elliot follows Boog home and finds him sleeping in the garage and starts to throw rabbits at the window. He tells him to be "free" from his garage captivity and introduces Boog to a world of sweet temptations outside of the garage that he has unknown. When Boog becomes intoxicated with sugar sweets, events quickly spiral out of control as the two ransack the town's grocery store. Elliot escapes before Boog is caught by a friend of Beth, police officer Gordy. At the nature show, Elliot who is being chased by Shaw, sees Boog who attacks him, causing the whole audience in the show to panic before Boog threatens to hurt Elliot. Shaw attempts to shoot Boog, but Beth sedates them with a tranquilizer gun before he could, thanks to Gordy. Shaw flees before he can arrest him for shooting a gun in the town. The two trouble-makers are released into the Timberline National Forest, only three days before open season starts, but they are set over the falls, where they will be safe.

The film opens with Tod and Copper chasing a cricket together. They see a line of trucks bringing the county fair to town, and Copper is mesmerized by the sound of dogs singing together in an old school bus with "The Singin' Strays" painted on the side. The pair are eager to go see the fair, but when Copper's clumsy tracking skills disappoint his master Amos Slade yet again, the pup is tied up in the yard while Slade and Chief go to the fair without him. Tod arrives and pulls Copper's collar off, and the pair head to the fair.
