Super tough Vietnam Veteran Sam Woods (Huff) is a survivor of a vicious prison camp where he was brutally and painfully tortured before finally managing to escape. When Wood returned to rescue his friends, he found that they were already dead. Some time later a woman named Maryline Kane (Stavin) offers him a tremendous amount of money if he will accompany her back to the area where the prison camp was to do interviews for a documentary story. It all turns out to be a lie − her father is now a prisoner of that same camp where Wood was tortured, and she knows that only a man like Wood can help set him free. Sam adopt a proposal, but then situation came out to be much more complicated, because the camp is now run by an old nemesis Duan Loc (Pochath).

This version is much closer to the 1937 film than to the original James Hilton novel. It tells the story of a group of travellers whose airplane is hijacked while fleeing a bloody revolution. The airplane crash lands in an unexplored area of the Himalayas, where the party is rescued and taken to the lamasery of Shangri-La. Miraculously, Shangri-La, sheltered by mountains on all sides, is a temperate paradise amid the land of snows. In Copenhagen in 1962, a high-ranking Soviet intelligence officer, Boris Kusenov (Per-Axel Arosenius), defects to the West with his wife and daughter after a chase through the streets to the US embassy. In Washington DC, CIA agent Mike Nordstrom (John Forsythe) debriefs him and learns that Russian ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads are to be placed in Cuba. Needing physical evidence of the missiles, he contacts an old friend, French agent André Devereaux (Frederick Stafford), at his house in Georgetown. Nordstrom discloses Kusenov's name to Devereaux, asking him to bribe Luis Uribe, a member of Cuba's U.N. delegation, to provide photographs of documents confirming the missile bases in Cuba (knowing that Uribe hates the United States and would never cooperate with an American agent). Devereaux decides to accompany his daughter Michèle (Claude Jade) on her honeymoon with journalist François Picard (Michel Subor) as a reason to go to New York City. In Nazi Germany during World War II, David March (Goulet) is an American traitor who has been given wide access to travel as he wishes within Germany.
