The Burial Society tells the story of Sheldon Kasner, whose existence has recently turned to one of quiet anxiety. His workload is mounting as his reimbursement for it continues to diminish, and Sheldon justifiably falls into a deep depression. Despite being a highly unlikely candidate for organized crime, he is drawn into a complicit money-laundering scam that doesn't run as planned. With a two-million-dollar debt on his hands, Sheldon devises a complicated plan: staging his own death with the help of the Chevrah Kadisha, or the "Burial Society," a mysterious group of devout Jewish men who have dedicated themselves to preparing dead bodies for their final resting place. Unbeknownst to Sheldon, the Burial Society sees the incompetent businessman as the only hope for the continued existence of their tradition. As they initiate him into their peculiar, ritualistic world, Sheldon believes his life is leisurely getting back on track; however, the men of the Burial Society may have something else in mind for him.

Investment banker Harold Lee (John Cho) is persuaded by his colleagues Billy and JD to do their work while they leave for the weekend. Nashawn Wade (Kevin Hart) has a horrible experience with a typical airline: his dog is classified as checked baggage instead of a carry-on, he eats a horrible airline meal, his buttocks gets stuck in the toilet during turbulence, and Nashawn's dog is sucked through a jet engine (after accidentally opening the cargo door). In response, he sues the airline and is awarded $100,000,000 by the jury. He decides to use the money to start his own airline, called N.W.A. (Nashawn Wade Airlines), whose acronym and logo are a pop culture reference to rap group N.W.A. The airline, specifically caters to African Americans and hip hop culture. The terminal at the airport is called the Malcolm X terminal, the plane is a heavily modified Boeing 747SP, customized with low-rider hydraulics, spinners, blended winglets to compensate for the drag from the decorations, and a dance club. The safety video is also a spoof of the Destiny's Child song "Survivor".

Lars von Trier prétend que le court-métrage Det perfekte menneske de Jørgen Leth sorti en 1967 est son film préféré. Dans le but de lui rendre hommage, mais d'une manière perverse, à la fois manipulatrice et créatrice, il propose à l'auteur du film original, son compatriote Jørgen Leth, de détruire et de reconstruire autrement ce court-métrage. Il défie Leth d'en tourner cinq remakes. Pour chaque projet, il lui impose de nouvelles « obstructions », consignes, restrictions, interdictions plus ou moins arbitraires, l'obligeant à repenser l'histoire, l'esthétique et les personnages de son film. Il s'ensuit à chaque épreuve un feed back entre les deux hommes où Lars von Trier, dans une sorte de position de « directeur de conscience », à la limite de l'humiliation, semble prendre à cœur de déconstruire et détruire ce que Jørgen Leth a réalisé.

Nora Harper (Jenifer Lewis) is an African-American businesswoman who owns a hair salon in Los Angeles, California. She keeps watch over her employees, friends, relatives, and regular customers. Lilleana (Tatyana Ali) is a new employee from the Dominican Republic, and she is also in an abusive relationship with her wants-more-than friend, Bennie (Bobby Brown). Chloe (Tamala Jones) is a hair stylist who has aspirations of a career in show business. Ming (Lucille Soong) does manicures and has problems with her temper, and loves offering her opinions. Devin (Jean-Claude LaMarre) is a bisexual man who is uncertain about his relationship with Delicious (Donn Swaby). Later in the film, Nora has a heart attack. Her friends from the salon hope for her recovery but she dies shortly before the end of the film. In the end the salon remains open, selling Nora's hairstyling products.
