The film is set in Africa's Okavango Delta, and the main characters are a meerkat named Billy and a lion named Socrates. The annual flood has failed to arrive in the Delta, water has become scarce and the native animals fiercely fight over it. Billy and Socrates set out to find more water, and during their quest they meet a rag-tag group of animals from across the world: a polar bear named Sushi, a kangaroo named Toby, a Tasmanian devil named Smiley, two Galápagos tortoises named Winifred and Winston, a rooster named Charles, and a chimpanzee named Toto, all of whom have had their lives ruined by humans in some way and have travelled to Africa. The animals soon discover the reason for the lack of water in the Delta: a dam has been constructed to supply energy for a luxury resort owned by a man named Mr. Smith. Hunter, a poacher, kidnaps Socrates, while the other animals escape. The animals hold a conference where Winifred and Winston explain the deadly future that could be possible for animals. After the conference, however, Winifred and Winston pass away. That day, Billy and the other animals travel through the "Valley of Death" towards the dam. Hunter spots the animals and tries to stop them with a bi-plane, but is stopped by Toto. Maya, Mr. Smith's daughter, frees Socrates from his cage, and sends Hunter down a chute. Down at the bottom of the dam, the buffaloes and rhinos, including Chino and Biggie, charge into the dam. Billy hits a rock into a chute in the dam, which ignites a missile from Hunter's bi-plane, which destroys the dam, and frees the water. To celebrate the water coming back, they have a party. After the party, the animals travel to New York City, where the movie ends with the animals walking through the city with whales calling in the background.

Dans le nid d'une famille de vautours, une maman vautour s'adresse à ses 4 petits afin de ramener de la nourriture. Elle leur assigne à chacun un animal à chasser (successivement un cheval, un bœuf, un élan et une vache). Tous partent sauf le dernier, « Killer » Beaky, qui est un grand timide malhabile et balbutiant. La mère vautour propulse d'un coup de patte hors du nid ce petit un peu immature et l'oblige à ramener au minimum un lapin. Il va prendre alors pour cible Bugs : il fonce sur lui comme un avion. Bugs se fait passer pour la tour de contrôle, mais en le guidant, il le fait s'écraser au sol. Le lapin se présente comme à son habitude et lui demande ce qu'il chasse. Beaky cherche un moment avant de se rappeler que c'est un lapin. Bugs lui demande alors de bien vouloir le laisser se laver avant d'être capturé. Le vautour attend longtemps pendant que Bugs chante dans son terrier. Sentant qu'il se fait avoir, il veut plonger la tête dans le terrier et découvre Bugs déguisé en séduisante dame qui sort de son bain. Le jeune vautour se détourne, rougit de honte. Bugs en profite pour le frapper avec sa serviette de bain enroulée, et se cache derrière un rocher. Alors que le vautour le cherche, Bugs taquine la pomme d'Adam proéminente de Beaky et s'enfuit juste après : d'abord par petits bonds, puis à la manière d'un patineur sur glace. Il ne se rend pas compte au début que Beaky, en vol, l'attrape par les oreilles. Bugs chatouille l'oiseau avec une de ses plumes pour lui faire lâcher prise. Le lapin tombe brutalement derrière un squelette d'animal. D'abord horrifié en voyant son corps sous la forme d'un squelette, il pleure, pense être mort. Cela ne l'empêche pas de faire des apartés avec le public : il s'exclame hors de propos « Horrible, hein ? » puis découvre qu'il est toujours vivant et rit comme un fou avant de confier effrontément au spectateur « J'étais au courant depuis le début ! ». Bugs se fait attraper à nouveau par le vautour. La bataille qui s'ensuit tourne à la danse entre les adversaires, avec Bugs qui reprend son rôle de séductrice. Au cours de la danse, Bugs fait tourner Beaky comme une toupie, toupie qui s'enfonce dans le sol devant le squelette. Beaky prend peur comme Bugs, appelle au secours. La mère vautour arrive à tire-d'aile. Face à l'ardeur meurtrière de la mère, Bugs Buny remet Beaky debout. Voyant que son petit est finalement sauf, elle finit par entourer Bugs de son aile et lui dit « Toi, toi, mon héros », puis l'embrasse d'un baiser passionné d'où apparaît un cœur. Bugs rougit, prend la forme du bec de Beaky et se met à balbutier comme lui.

In the Australian Outback, a young boy named Cody rescues and befriends a rare golden eagle named Marahute, who shows him her nest and eggs. Later on, the boy unknowingly falls into an animal trap set by Percival C. McLeach, a local poacher wanted by the Australian Rangers. When McLeach finds one of the eagle's feathers on the boy's backpack, he is instantly overcome with excitement, for he knows that catching an eagle that size would make him rich because he had caught one before, which was Marahute's mate. McLeach throws Cody's backpack to a pack of crocodiles in order to trick the Rangers into thinking that Cody was dead, and kidnaps him in his attempt to force him to reveal the whereabouts of Marahute.

The film takes place in a theater late at night as a troupe of actors are rehearsing a musical about a mass murderer known as the Night Owl. The psychiatrist on duty is happy to help, but the wardrobe mistress notices a restrained patient on a bed lying in a room behind bars. The doctor tells them that it is Irving Wallace (Clain Parker), a former actor who went insane and murdered dozen of people. Unbeknownst to any of them, Wallace killed one of the attendants with a syringe and sneaked out of the asylum, hiding in the back of Betty's car.
