Ching Siu-tung (born 1953), also known as Tony Ching, is a Hong Kong action choreographer, actor, film director and producer, who has directed over 20 films, including the critically acclaimed supernatural fantasy A Chinese Ghost Story (1987). He produced the spectacular clip L'Âme-Stram-Gram the French star singer Mylène Farmer at a cost of € 1 million.

Biography

Ching Siu-tung est le fils de Chen Kang, réalisateur pour la Shaw Brothers du film Les 14 Amazones. Il apprend les arts martiaux à Hong Kong dans une école d'Opéra de Pékin puis devient acteur et chorégraphe pour la télévision de Hong Kong.

En 1982, il fait ses débuts dans la réalisation avec Duel to the Death, un film qui renouvelle le Wu Xia Pian. Avec Tsui Hark comme producteur au sein de la Film Workshop, il réinvente le film de fantômes avec la trilogie Histoire de fantômes chinois (remake du film de Li Han-hsiang L'Ombre enchanteresse), puis le wu xia pian avec la trilogie Swordsman.

En 1990, il réunit Gong Li et Zhang Yimou dans Terracotta Warrior, une histoire d'amour intemporelle ayant pour cadre le Mausolée de l'empereur Qin.

Au cours des années 2000, il participe en tant que chorégraphe au succès mondial de films tels que Shaolin Soccer de Stephen Chow, Hero, Le secret des poignards volants et La Cité interdite de Zhang Yimou.

Pour son travail de chorégraphe, il remporte d'ailleurs deux Hong Kong Film Award de la meilleure chorégraphie d'action : en 1991 pour Swordsman et en 2003 pour Hero.

Tim (Michael Hui) and Lee (Samuel Hui) are emloyees of a mental hospital working as an orderly and nurse respectively. Princess tells them that her father discovered a sunk boat at the coast of Hong Kong. Tim and Lee starts to plan for their luxurious life, including quitting their jobs, and set out to find the artifacts. They do discover tons of it and brings it to trade for money. However, the ones Tim and Lee find are revealed to be fakes. With their dreams of luxury over, Lee gets his job back and Tim got insane and became a mental patient.

It is 1934, in Japanese occupied Korea. Angela, Carter and Sammo are sitting and talking in a park when they are approached by a group of Japanese toughs. The leader of the Japanese begins to make unwelcome advances, and Angela tries her best to ignore him. Sammo loses his temper and a melee ensues. These three have just graduated, learning the art of Hapkido and they return to China in the hopes of setting up their own school, which they do. The Japanese, who consider it an inferior martial art, try to run them out of town with some traitorous Chinese, including Pai Ying. Angela, Carter and Sammo don’t want any trouble as it goes against the wishes of their master and his teachings. It’s Sammo who finally loses it after being insulted by some Japanese. This doesn’t go down well and Sammo becomes a wanted man, having to hide out while Angela and Carter try to reason with The Black Bear Gang without much luck. Finally the Japanese go too far and Angela, Carter and Sammo are forced to fight back with devastating results for the Japanese.

The film starts with Abbott Fahai and his assistant Neng Ren heading towards a snow blizzard through a magical door. An ice harpy appears at the top of the mountains and turns the impetuous Neng Ren into an ice statue. She then reveals her past and reasons to kill all men. Unable to persuade the ice harpy to turn over a new leaf, Fahai is forced to fight the ice harpy. The battle ends with Fahai capturing the ice harpy using a demon trapper, which releases Neng Ren from ice. Neng Ren is then tasked to confine the ice harpy at Lei Feng Pagoda, and the master and assistant head back to the door which disappears after closing behind them. At Lei Feng Pagoda, Neng Ren transfers the ice harpy from the demon trapper into the magic circle, which holds other trapped demons in it.

Hong Kong's gambling champion Cool (Louis Koo) was once boundlessly glorious, specializing in a card-flying stunt that reputed the gambling world. In Asia, only Japan's Tetsuo (Yasuaki Kurata) is considered a worthy opponent to Cool. Cool is bent on defeating Tetsuo to become Asia's number one. To gain this title, Cool works hard to improve his gambling skills, but was framed by his god-brother Yeung Kwong (Ben Lam), who tricks Cool's girlfriend, Karen (Athena Chu), and marries her. Cool rushes into the wedding hall and falls into Yeung's trap. Karen sees through Yeung's scheme and while protecting Cool, she gets shot and becomes a vegetable as a result. However, since Karen was leaglly married to Yeung, Cool was unable take her away back to Hong Kong and Cool retires from the gambling world and opens a Chinese restaurant in Japan and everyday, Cool would secretly take a look at the unconscious Karen.
