Biography
Perry est né à Williamstown, Massachusetts,il est le fils de Marie Schaefer (née Bennett) et Alton L. Perry. Il s'est marié deux fois. Sa première femme était Suzanne Perry Morrison (une ancienne secrétaire de presse canadienne du premier ministre Pierre Trudeau), avec lequel il est le père de l'acteur Matthew Perry, né le 19 août 1969, connu pour son rôle de Chandler Bing de Friends. Perry et Morrison ont divorcé avant le premier anniversaire de Matthieu. Il a aussi une fille, Mia Perry, né en 1986, avec sa seconde épouse Debbie. Chicago air traffic controller Jack Harris (Kiefer Sutherland) was cleared of liability for an ill-fated flight under his authority, such that resulted in the loss of all 174 souls aboard. He subsequently left the job and went on to design air control software, until five years later when T.C. Bryant (Bruce McGill), his ex-colleague who had since transferred to Phoenix, pleads for help on New Year's Eve due to a critical staff shortage and with torrential weather predicted. His return to the control room is met with warmth and disdain, particularly when he experiences flashbacks of the historic incident. The atmosphere rapidly becomes much more serious as the storm approaches and with the control tower suffering power cuts, the team is forced into manually directing busy air traffic through severe turbulence.

Scout Bozell has always dreamed of becoming a member of the safety patrol at his school, Rockridge Middle School. However, his clumsy, bumbling, hazardous nature prevents him from doing so. In one such instance shown at the film's beginning, while he picks up a banana peel on the ground and describing how hazardous is it, a kid trips over his backpack, causing his marbles to roll out and the kids to slip on them, one girl sending her lunchbox flying and it hits the principal on the head. As Scout swings his backpack to put the banana peel in the garbage, he knocks a kid off his bike, setting off a chain reaction that ends with a plastic squirrel the bike crashed into hitting a truck full of giant frozen tuna, which slide on the road and eat the last member of the safety patrol, "Joe Lobes" Lobenick, leaving him severely traumatized, and deleting the list of safety patrol until he recovers. The teachers try to convince Principal Tromp to put Scout on safety patrol, as he is the only one left on the list. Tromp agrees, but gets the school boundaries changed, transferring Scout to Laurelview Middle School.

The film begins with an animated introduction featuring a plane heading toward "the Heart of Africa" (more specifically, a region called "Bukuvu"). The plane crashes and George, an infant/toddler, is lost, but enjoys vine swinging and crashing into trees as a running gag. 25 years later, George (Brendan Fraser) has grown into a Tarzan-like man, the "King of the Jungle", who makes his home around Ape mountain. His friends include a sophisticated talking gorilla named Ape (voiced by John Cleese), along with a toco toucan named Tookie, a small capuchin monkey named Little Monkey, and an African elephant named Shep, whom he calls his "dog" (all voiced by Frank Welker).

Alex Whitman (Matthew Perry) is an architect from New York City who is sent to Las Vegas to supervise the construction of a nightclub that his firm has been hired to build. Alex is a strait-laced WASP-ish type who, while enjoying a night on the town, meets Isabel Fuentes (Salma Hayek), a free-spirited Mexican-American photographer. Alex and Isabel are overtaken by lust at first sight and end up spending the night together; however, their immediate attraction doesn't last in the cold light of day, and they don't see each other for another three months. When they do meet again, it's because Isabel has some interesting news for Alex: She's pregnant with his child. On July 2, a 500 km wide alien mothership enters Earth's orbit and deploys several dozen saucer-shaped "destroyer" spacecraft, each 15 miles (24 km) wide. As they take position over some of Earth's major cities, David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum), an MIT graduate working for a cable company in New York City, discovers hidden transmissions in Earth's satellites which he realizes is a timer counting down to a coordinated attack by the aliens. With the support of his estranged wife Constance Spano (Margaret Colin), the White House Communications Director, he and his father Julius (Judd Hirsch) gain entrance into the Oval Office to notify President Thomas J. Whitmore (Bill Pullman) about the attack. Whitmore orders large-scale evacuations of the targeted cities, but the aliens attack with advanced directed-energy weapons before these can be carried out. Whitmore, portions of his staff, and the Levinsons narrowly escape aboard Air Force One as Washington, D.C. is destroyed.

Beth Knowlton (Langton) is a young art student who is majoring in photography at a college in Phoenix, Arizona. The film focuses on the cast and crew of a new TV series called Manhattan, which is shot on location in New York City. Mel Wexler is a successful producer who has become a workaholic since the death of his family in a plane crash. Trying to forget his loss, he throws himself on producing Manhattan. Attorney Phillip Reed is tired of one-night stands. He then meets a woman at the zoo, Gloria, who is getting married the next week. When she meets Phillip, she lies to him and tells him her name is Marsha Lyons. The two hit it off right, away and Gloria/Marsha tells Phillip she'll call him. Gloria/Marsha doesn't plan on ever calling him back, but when she calls her soon-to-be groom and a woman whom he presumably slept with answers, Gloria/Marsha decides to call Phillip. She asks him to go to Mexico with her, and the two have an adventure getting there when the car they rented breaks down and catches fire. Then they hitch a ride with some local farm workers. Finally, they make it to a beautiful home that is owned by Gloria/Marsha's parents. They have a blast in Mexico, dining and dancing, eventually winding up in bed together. The next morning Phillip gets up looking for Gloria/Marsha who's already left. Phillip finds out via a videotape explanation left by Gloria/Marsha that she's getting married tomorrow and that he was supposed to be her last fling. Phillip then tries to find her. When he finally does, he tries to stop the wedding and convince Gloria that they belong together. In the end, Gloria leaves her groom at the altar, and she and Phillip go for a walk in the zoo where they first met.
