Kamaluddin Mohammed Majeed, usually credited as Kamal, is an Indian film director, writer and producer. He was born on November 28, 1957 in Mathilakam, Kodungallur in Thrissur District of Kerala State. He started his career after his studies from Christ College Irinjalakuda and Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur. He started his career with the film ‘Thraasam’, directed by Padiyan in 1981 as the script writer/ associate director.
His first film was Mizhineer Pookkal in 1986 and to date, he has directed more than 43 movies, among which include 2 non-Malayalam movies, one each in Tamil and Hindi. Apart from his role as a director, Kamal has held several prestigious administrative posts within the Malayalm film industry. He had previously acted as the general secretary of MACTA (Malayalam Cine Technicians Association) and has been an executive member of the Kerala Chalachitra Academy. He is currently the President of the Kerala Director’s Union (FEFKA).
Kamal is arguably the most versatile filmmaker within the Malayalam film industry, having made films in every genre including comedy, romance, period, with drama his forte. His celebrated career has seen many critically and commercially acclaimed films, usually on social and real issues. Another facet to note in his films, is the use of music, often classical Indian music, including ghazals and Hindustani.

Celluloid tells the tale of J. C. Daniel (Prithviraj) and his love for cinema. He goes to great lengths to get the equipment required to make a movie, writing numerous letters, visiting places and meeting Dada Saheb Phalke-the man who brought cinema to India. Getting a female artiste to act in his movie was a tough task. It is decided that Rosamma, rechristened later as P K Rosy (Chandini), will essay the lead role in J. C. Daniel's revolutionary 'motion picture' venture, Vigathakumaran, the story of which J. C. Daniel himself conceived. He sells everything to make his dream a reality, further borrowing money to meet the expenses. When finally Vigathakumaran is screened at Capitol Theatre, a 'cinemapura', the upper caste members of the audience creates a ruckus over a lower caste girl acting as a Nair lady. Rosie, hunted by the Madambis leaves town never to be seen again. Years later, the shrivelled, poverty ridden Daniel, with only his wife Janet (Mamta Mohandas) by his side, is leading a life far removed from what he had envisaged. Chelangatt Gopalakrishnan's (Sreenivasan) interest in Daniel's life, his efforts to give him his due and the flashbacks to the incidents in Daniel's life after Vigathakumaran form the rest of the movie.

Swapna Sanchari revolves around the gulf-returned Ajaychandran Nair (Jayaram). He has a lovely wife (Samvrutha Sunil) and a 9th standard daughter ( Anu Emmanuel) who does not speak more. The film begins with the song “manju mazhakattil” showing the family of young Gautham Menon moving into Srinagar and the getting used to the Kashmir life. Later a group of terrorists siege the village and kill Guatham’s parents. Gautham’s older sister pulls him away from the killers and hides behind woods. Akbar (Dileep) is happily married to Raziya (Meera Jasmine). Akbar goes to the Persian Gulf for employment. There he befriends Raghu Rama Iyer (Vineeth) and John Kuruvilla (Biju Menon).
