A former cowboy movie star Rex Roper (John Forsythe) decides to run for Mayor of Crescent Bay, California. He hopes that if he wins the election, he will be able to install his hot tub, a plan that Town Supervisor Charlene McKeon (Barbara Eden) had previously nixed due to the area's water shortage. Charlene is also running for Mayor, pitting her solid reputation, vigilant community membership and homespan values against Rex's popularity, megabucks and media savvy. Before the election, Rex and Charlene have created their own political scandal when the two opponents find themselves falling in love.

Megan Gordon (Rainbow Harvest) is a shy Goth girl who moves into a new neighborhood from Los Angeles with her recently widowed mother Susan (Karen Black). However, the antiques dealer who was in charge of the house clearance finds an old diary that holds the ominous secret of the mirror's past: It describes how the mirror is possessed by a demonic force within it, which has the power to grant requests at a deadly price...and the fate of the previous owner's sister.

The special is the story of Bardock, a so-called low-level soldier in Frieza's armed forces. At the outset of the story, his son, Kakarot, is born on Planet Vegeta, and is being prepared to be sent to a "frontier planet" (Earth) in order to destroy all life there. Meanwhile, Bardock and his crew are on an assignment to exterminate all the lifeforms of Planet Kanassa. After the planet is seemingly devoid of all other life, Bardock and crew rest up and celebrate their victory until one remaining Kanassan warrior catches him off guard and decides to give him the "gift" of seeing the future, before being destroyed by Bardock. This gives him the ability to see the destruction of Planet Vegeta, and the oppression of the entire universe at the hands of Frieza.

When wealthy Arthur Patterson (Donald Moffat) finds out that he is dying, he tries to make peace with his past. He looks back to his World War II years, when he was a soldier in France. There, he met a poor French girl, Solange Bertrand (Kim Thomson), whom he fell in love with. Solange married his good friend Sam (Bruce Abbott), though, and they settled in New York City after the War, where Sam worked as an actor on Broadway.
