Marshall Brickman (born August 25, 1939) is an American screenwriter, best known for his collaborations with Woody Allen. He is also known for playing the banjo with Eric Weissberg in the 1960s, and for a series of comical parodies published in The New Yorker.

Biography

Marshall Brickman est né au Brésil de parents américains, Pauline (née Wolin) et Abram Brickman. Après avoir fréquenté l'Université du Wisconsin à Madison, il devient membre du groupe de folk The Tarriers en 1962, recruté par son camarade de classe Eric Weissberg. À la séparation du groupe en 1965, Brickman rejoint The New Journeymen aux côtés de John et Michelle Phillips, qui connaîtront plus tard un franc succès avec The Mamas & the Papas. Il quitte ensuite The New Journeymen afin de poursuivre une carrière de scénariste pour la télévision. C'est à ce moment qu'il fait la connaissance du jeune réalisateur Woody Allen. Tous les deux collaborent sur les scripts de Woody et les Robots, Annie Hall – film grâce auquel il remporte l'Oscar du meilleur scénario original en 1978 – et Manhattan.

Dans les années 1980, Brickman réalise plusieurs longs métrages basés sur ses propres scénarios, tels que Simon, Lovesick et Le Projet Manhattan, ainsi que Et Dieu créa Sœur Mary, un téléfilm adapté d'une pièce de théâtre écrite par Christopher Durang. He is dating Tracy (Mariel Hemingway), a 17-year-old girl attending the Dalton School. His best friend, college professor Yale Pollack (Michael Murphy), married to Emily (Anne Byrne), is having an affair with Mary Wilkie (Diane Keaton). Mary's ex-husband and former teacher, Jeremiah (Wallace Shawn), also appears. Isaac's ex-wife Jill Davis (Meryl Streep) is writing a confessional book about their marriage. Jill has also since come out of the closet as a lesbian and lives with her partner, Connie (Karen Ludwig).
