The film's narrative centers on a hardboiled detective story that takes place in a Californian suburb. Most of the main characters are high school students. The film draws heavily in plot, characterization, and dialogue from hardboiled classics, especially from Dashiell Hammett. The title refers to a block of heroin, compressed roughly to the size and shape of a brick.
The film won the Special Jury Prize for Originality of Vision at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival., and received positive reviews from critics. It has come to be regarded as a cult classic.
Synopsis
High school student Brendan Frye lives a lonely existence following his break up with ex-girlfriend Emily Kostich and the betrayal of his friend Jerr to the authorities. One morning, Brendan discovers a note leading him to a pay phone, where he receives a phone call from a terrified Emily. While begging him for help, she mentions a "brick", "poor Frisco", "Tug", and "the Pin", before abruptly and fearfully hanging up. Her fear appears to have been caused by a passing black Ford Mustang, from which a distinctive-looking cigarette was thrown. Upon asking for information from his acquaintance named Brain, Brendan's search for Emily leads him to Kara, an ex-girlfriend of his - which further leads him to a Halloween party attended by a flirtatious Laura and her boyfriend, Brad Bramish.Actors

Undercover San Francisco narcotics cops Sean Kane (Chuck Norris) and Dave Pierce (Terry Kiser) head into a dark alley to meet up with an informant by the name of Tony Montoya (Mel Novak) who promises to break their big investigation wide open by providing the name of the oriental drug ringleader. Minutes later, Pierce is dead after having been shot, hit by a car, and burned. In 2044, 25-year-old Joe works for a Kansas City crime syndicate as a "looper." Since technology in the future has made it almost impossible to successfully dispose of murdered bodies, the syndicates use time travel which was invented in 2074 and subsequently outlawed. Managed by a man sent from the future named Abe, loopers kill and dispose of victims sent back in time whose faces are hidden by a bag. They are paid with bars of silver strapped to the target. To prevent connections to the use of illegal time travel, when a looper is retired, his future self is sent back to 2044 as a target for his younger self, but with gold bars as a payment. This event is referred to as "closing the loop" and signals the end of a looper's contract. Failing to close the loop is punishable by execution.
